Inspiringly Haunting.

ree

As I am working on my third book 'Millhouse' a compelling ghost story, I thought I would share one of my experiences with the other side.

It was late Autumn, and a friend of mine had been told of a place where we could go fishing. The pools were situated in woodland behind a University and managed by the local Police force, obviously, both of us being in our mid-teens were neither University students nor Police officers so our presence there was somewhat risky.

We arrived late afternoon and luckily had the entirety of the pools to ourselves, to say the place was eerie would be an understatement! We quickly set up our fishing rods and spent the remainder of the day in angling bliss. The sun was getting low in the sky when we began the long walk home, so we decided to take a shortcut through the woods that ran alongside the University.

Laden down with fishing baskets and rods we entered the woods and followed a narrow path that led us both straight through the middle of the dense trees. The narrowness of the path meant that we had to walk in a single file, I took the lead while my friend followed closely behind.

We had been walking for around ten minutes and were nearing the halfway point of the wood when my friend suddenly stopped. I turned to look at him, his face was filled with terror as he stood pointing to the right of where we were standing, and then I saw her.

We watched as the figure of a woman slowly and silently made her way through the wood, the floor of which was densely covered with brambles and other shrubbery until she crossed the path no more than thirty feet in front of us and disappeared. Some would say that perhaps we imagined it, or that it was the light playing tricks on two teenage boys, but we both saw her ghostly figure. And even now as I retell my experience of that Autumn day, the hairs on my arms stand upright and a cold shiver runs down my spine.

And so, this is where my desire to write a ghost story truly originated.
